When XL Construction bought two adjacent concrete storage facilities for their corporate headquarters, they called on AAi to gut and build-out the interior and renovate the exterior. In essence, the design challenge was to transform two industrial buildings into a single commercial building. AAi remodeled the windowless buildings into a bright, light-filled, animated space with curving walls and skylights. The design plan included converting the former loading dock into a bi-level lobby with slate and diamond plate flooring and stainless steel, sycamore, and granite finishes that demonstrate XL’s use of edgy materials. A curved wall in the upper lobby provides a backdrop for a custom display system designed to showcase XL’s construction projects.
